Thanks to the parents and children who participated in Lancashire’s ‘ Walk to School’ day this morning ! It was a great turn out and both staff and children felt refreshed and more energetic to start the morning after the walk!

Well done to the children who represented St Mary’s at Rossendale Schools Cross Country competition. They were absolutely amazing ! Two of our children also got through to the Lancashire finals in July representing Rossendale !

Class 3 had a wonderful day at Helmshore Textile museum yesterday as part of their current History topic.

Bury Hospice came into school today to present us with a cheque to say thanks for our wonderful fundraising for them .

Y4 had a brilliant time completing their ‘Butterfly moment’ at Ski Rossendale. The children were wonderful ambassadors for the school during the trip 🦋

Y5 had an amazing 2 days doing Bikeability. The instructors were SO impressed by the children for the resilience they showed and how well they listened and supported one another. Go Y5!

Y5 completed their “Butterfly Moment” 🦋 to attempt to break a World Record! They attempted to beat Yousef Imani’s record of the most full extension punches in one minute. Although the children didn’t manage to break this record, they had an amazing time learning the skills of boxing and giving it a really good go. Super proud of you Y5!

These children have completed fantastic Lenten homework and were chosen by the school chaplains to receive special awards. Well done!

on St Patrick’s Day, we presented our annual ‘Cartin- Shackleton’ awards. These awards are for effort, attitude and achievement and are given each year on the 17th March to children in Y2 and Y6. Delilah’s mum, Rachel, presented them to the children today as she is the granddaughter of the late Mrs Taylor who started presenting the awards in 2004. Well done to our 2 very worthy, wonderful winners!

Our KS2 butterfly moment to watch a live sports match has well and truly begun! Free flags and a goal for BRFC! 2 of our wonderful girls chosen as flag bearers to start the match too! What a joy to see these happy faces!

Class 1 have had an amazing day at Jodrell Bank Discovery Centre today! They even got to take a trip into space.

Class 5 have had a great time in Computing club where they have been experimenting with Crumble kits.

Class 3 have had a very exciting visitor today. Professor Mike, who is a marine biologist, came to talk to the children about how climate change is effecting the oceans and the many species that live there. This was to enhance our learning Literacy. The children made their own coral reefs in class and saw first hand what could happen to our reefs in the near future if we don’t take action.

Our wonderful dance squad who were crowned Rossendale Dance Champions on Thursday. They now go on to compete in Blackpool on 15th May with the chance to become Lancashire champions.

Year 5 and 6 took part in a basketball tournament on the 30th January. Two teams went with one qualifying for the finals, just beating our second team (who won an award for school games values showing teamwork) to the spot. The finals took place on Wednesday 1st February. The team were outstanding and played brilliant basketball showing fantastic teamwork which also won them another school games values award for teamwork. It was a hard final and eventually we placed second, losing by just one point. I could not have been prouder of the way they played and their strong sportsmanship behaviour. Well done.

Year 3 and 4 had a fantastic time at the glow in the dark dodgeball festival. What a brilliant event. They had the biggest smiles throughout and played really well with great team spirit and fair play. Well done!

Class 2 have had a brilliant afternoon in Forest School . We built nests, did some pond dipping and enjoyed a delicious hot chocolate ! 🌳 🐦

Class 5 had their first “Food and Nutrition” session today to learn about the importance of staying healthy. They got to sample various fruit and vegetables which some of the children hadn’t tried them before.

What a fabulous day Year 3 have had in Manchester city centre for their first ‘Butterfly’ moment of the year. It was a day full of many firsts and the children made lots of exciting memories that I am sure they will treasure forever.

We are so proud of our 2 Y6 superstar readers who have read over 100 times at home and today received their book prize in recognition of their hard work. Well done girls!

Two teams from years 5 and 6 competed in the local schools dodgeball tournament. A great time was had by all and there were some hard fought matches. Excellent team work from all players and superb sportsmanship. Well done and thank you RSSP.

On Friday 7th October our year 5/6 girls football team took part in a long-awaited tournament, having been cancelled last year due to COVID cases and rearranged twice this year due to weather, they finally took to the pitch and they did not disappoint. They played with such enthusiasm and although they did not progress to the finals they loved every minute of the matches, had the biggest smiles on their faces and all want to continue to play football outside of school. Definitely a win!

Class 4 Art have been exploring different techniques which can be applied to watercolours to create unusual effects .

On Friday 14th October, our year 3 and 4 football team competed at a tournament at The Valley Academy. We were placed into a group with teams from St Paul’s and Haslingden Primary. Each match was hard fought and close, with two excellent goals being scored. Our defence worked incredibly hard with superb tackles and great passes down the wings and the midfield didn’t stop running. A great event with some excellent play from everyone. I’m looking forward to seeing what this team can do in the future.

Our ‘Kindness Ambassadors’ have been in action again this week and have made bookmarks for all of their reading buddies!

Y5/6 football team took part in a tournament at The Valley Academy. The level of play and team work was outstanding. They were an absolute credit to our school.

Our school chaplains visited Salford Cathedral to visit the ’Relics of St Bernadette’ tour and find out more about the apparitions at Lourdes.

Reception Class have performed their own little Nativity this morning and chose which parts they wanted to be !

The children have had a wonderful day today in school as part of the PTA’s ‘Winter Wonderland’ event

Our wonderful Y1 and Y2 children had a fantastic time at their very first sporting event for school yesterday .

This week we visited Bury Hospice to place 4 hearts on their Memorial Wall , including one in memory of Natalie Doherty , Bobby’s Mum . Each heart represents £1000 of funds raised for the hospice .

Rachel from Bury Hospice came to visit and to thank St Mary’s for raising £200 for them at our recent ‘Wear Yellow’ non uniform day

Class 3 have loved their first recorder lessons after school and we have some super musicians in the group !

Congratulations to our new school chaplains , who were appointed today and will be commissioned at All Saints High School in 2 weeks time . They are all shining examples of how to live like Jesus and are wonderful ambassadors for St Mary’s !
